ORGANIZATIONAL WORK TEAM RESEARCH FINDINGS

A number of years ago a leading expert on group and team performance said that teams can yield the kinds of benefits envisioned by their creators. Conversely, he also said that teams can waste the time and energy of members, enforce lower performance norms, create patterns of destructive conflict within and between groups, and make notoriously bad decisions. He further noted that groups and teams can exploit, stress, and frustrate members-sometimes all at the same time. More recently this same expert commented, 'I have no question that a team can generate magic. But don't count on it.' \r
